Hamilton Carhartt realized this and aspired to create a line of clothing that was unique and useful to the blue collar worker. In 1889, he came out with an overall garment specifically used by railroad workers. Demand increased and his company was born. From the beginning, he ran the company with only one thing in mind: to set a standard of excellence to which all others would aspire.
