Snips and Notchers
section within our Hand Tools departmentWhether you are looking for Aviation Snips, Sheet Metal Notchers, or Straight and off-set Snips, Tools Plus has the right Snip to cut through any material. Cutting metal isn't a job for just any standard tool, specially designed tools are required to work safely and achieve quality results. One of our all time favorite general purchase snips is the Bessey D48A-BE. Customers keep coming back for this particular snip and have commented, "It cuts like a hot knife through butter and is very inexpensive."
Aviation snips, sometimes called compound-action snips, are great for cutting aluminum and various thicknesses of sheet metal. Aviation snips were originally created to cut aircraft aluminum, and their simple and efficient design has remained largely unchanged over the years. Since metal is so hard to work with, these snips are designed to specialize in different cutting patterns. Most aviation snips match up to a system of color coded handles so each type of snip is easy to identify; left cutters are red, straight cutters are yellow and right cutters are green.

Offset snips are named after their angled design. The blades on these snips are at an angle helping you avoid having metal get in your way as you cut. Snipped metal is sharp and dangerous so these snips are considered to be a safer option than straight snips. Many people also offset snips because they are easy to maneuver and use.
