Hammers
section within our Hand Tools departmentHammers page index:
Finding the right Hammer for a project depends mainly on finding the Hammer that feels comfortable and manageable but also has enough weight behind it. Our most popular hammers are claw hammers, the mallet, a sledgehammer and large framng hammers. We also have an extensive ball pein hammer selection.
The most important and largest Hammer category for Tools Plus and in your arsenal of Hand Tools, is the Framing Hammer or Claw Hammer with a straight or curved claw. So many choices to make, should I choose a Smooth-Faced or Milled Faced; or Wooden Handle versus Fiberglass Handles or a 14 oz Hammer to a 32 oz Hammer or maybe I should choose the Titanium Hammer! If you have trouble deciding, we are just a phone call away. Tools Plus only carries the most reputable hammer manufacturers including Estwing, Plumb, Stiletto and, of course, Vaughan.

Ball Pein Hammers are also spelled Ball Peen, which is a type of peening hammer. Once exclusively used for peening during metal fabrication, they are now usefull for small, delicate jobs when there is a danger of damaging a striking surface. Talk about a hammer that is specifically made for a particular trade - that would be the Electrician's Hammer! Due to it's extra-long and narrow striking face, an electrician's hammer can get into tight, deep areas such as an electrical box. Klein makes a very reasonably priced quality hammer.
Klein 807-18 Electrician's Hammer

To avoid damaging a delicate surface use a mallet. We have many mallets to choose from depending on the type of work you are doing. Rawhide mallets, like the Vaughan CR150, are used for leatherwork, jewellery or assembling electric motors. Copper mallets are typically used on machinery which reduces the chance of sparks. Copper is a much softer metal, so the mallet is deformed rather than any steel object it is hitting. The rubber mallet is typically used to form sheet metal, since it does not leave a mark and the blow is softer than that delivered by a metal hammer.
