M-D Building Products started back in 1920 when Louis Macklanburg was building a house and got frustrated with the lack of quality products available at the time. He began to design and develop a brass material that was flexible yet still can be used as weatherstripping. Through aggressive marketing, quality products, innovation and hard work, the company began to grow and develop new products. One of their unique items is an electronic level that can measure all angles in a 360 degree range called the "SmartTool" 92346 Electronic Level. If you used the level in a low light area, the tool would beep if the angle was not perfect. By having this function plus the ability to see angles in three different ways; they were able to offer a versatile product that would soon become a consumer favorite. Macklanburg-Duncan prided itself on being a family owned company until the year 2000; when GE purchased the company and reformatted it. To this day, M-D Building Products is still in business; busy manufacturing quality tools for less money.
